Design

The Deuce and a Half has power going to all wheels. There are five forward speeds with the 5th being overdrive.

The brakes hare hydraulic with a supplemental Hydrovac unit.

The cabs on the early Deuce and a Halfs were enclosed the rest being open with collapsible tops and folding windshields.

Variants

  • 2 1/2 Ton, 6x6 (4DT) Truck:
  • 2 1/2 Ton, 6x6 (4DT) Cargo Truck: Was the Army's standard cargo carrier that could also carry troops in seats. The seats were foldable to get them out of the way. The canvas top was held up by five bows. Ventilation is provided by rollup straps. Internal cargo space is around 80" x 144". There was a spare tire under the body.
  • 2 1/2 Ton, 6x6 (4DT) Short Wheelbase Cargo Truck: Was to be used primarily as a prime move. The internal cargo space is around 80" x 108". Two spare tires could be carried behind the cab. The truck could be split apart into two parts, flown by two aircraft and reassembled.
  • 2 1/2 Ton, 6x6 (4DT) 15' Cargo Truck: The cargo space was around 80" x 180". There were cargo racks installed. The canvas was held up by six bows. There were rollup straps for ventilation.
  • 2 1/2 Ton, 6x6 (4DT) Dump Truck: Was designed for the Corps of Engineers. It could be used as a cargo or a dump truck. There were also troop seats available. There was a hydraulic arm that lifted the cargo bed. The tail gate could be hinged at top or bottom.
  • 2 1/2 Ton, 6x6 (4DT) Gasoline Tank Truck: Two 375 gallon tanks, 61" x 54.5" x 34", were used. Bows and canvas was provided for camouflage.
  • 2 1/2 Ton, 6x6 (4DT) Water Tank Truck: A single 700 gallon tank, 136.5" x 52" x 34", was used. Bows and canvas was provided for camouflage.
