The Rock Island Arsenal (US government owned) designed this tank to share components with the M2 Light Tank to help with standardization.1

Several alternate forms were built before a standard was set.

Production

  • T5: 151
    • Manufacturer: Rock Island Arsenal3

Variants

  • T5: Had a single 37 mm gun.1 It fired a 1.91 lb round at a muzzle velocity of 2,600'/sec.3
  • T5E1 Phase I: Had 2 37 mm guns.1,4 The 37 mm guns were short.3
  • T5E2: Had a 75 mm pack howitzer which was hull mounted.1,4
  • T5 Phase III: Was the original pilot model, and had a larger engine and wider tracks.1
