Netherlands' Fokker D.XXIII fighter

Design

The Fokker D.XXIII was designed in 1938 and was original in its concept.1 The engines were in a pull-push configuration with the pilot sitting in the middle.1

The Fokker D.XXIII never went beyond the prototype stage.1

Landing Gear

The tricycle landing gear of the Fokker D.XXIII allowed for the rear propeller to remain off the ground.1

Prototype

The Fokker D.XXIII first flew in May 1939.1 The complexity of the engine configuration required several months of work to fix the cooling system.1
