Japan's Type 5 Ho-Ru, Type 4 Ho-Ro, and Ho-Ri tank destroyers

Design

Type 5 Ho-Ru

The Type 5 Ho-Ru was made from a Type 95 Light Tank chassis with a 47 mm antitank gun mounted.

Type 4 Ho-Ro

The Type 4 Ho-Ro was built on a modified Type 97 Medium Tank chassis. A 150 mm Type 38 howitzer was mounted.

Ho-Ri

The Ho-Ri was built on a Type 5 chassis. It had a 105 mm gun as its main armament and a 37 mm gun in the hull.

Prototype

Type 5 Ho-Ru

A single prototype of the Type 5 was built in June 1945.

  • Type 5 prototype: 1
  • Type 4 prototypes: 2

Variants

  • Type 5: 47 mm antitank gun.
  • Type 4: 150 mm Type 38 howitzer.
  • Ho-Ri 1: Engine mounted in center of the hull with the main armament in the rear.
  • Ho-Ri 2: Engine mounted in the rear and the main armament in the center.

Usage

Two Type 4 Ho-Ros were sent to the Philippines and were lost.
