Design

The Nakajima Type 3 was placed into service with the Imperial Japanese Navy in April 1929.1

Prototype

The Type 3 prototype was manufactured by the Gloucester firm in England.1

Variants

  • Type 3 Model 1: Had Jupiter 6 engine (420 HP).1
  • Type 3 Model 2: Had Kotobuki Model 2 engine (450 HP).1

Usage

Shanghai Incident

Type 3 fighters on board the Hōnshō and Kaga scored aerial victories.1
