Italy's Fiat G.12 transport

Design

In 1939 the Fiat G.12 was designed by Giuseppe Gabrielli to be a civilian transport flying internationally. Once World War II started the military requisitioned all of them.

The G.12 was a low wing monoplane that had a composite structure and covering. The landing gear was retractable.

Construction

The aircraft were made with with metal and fabric coverings over a metal frame.

Prototype

The G.12C first flew in October 1940.

The G.12 and G.12T first flew in May 1941.

Variants

  • Fiat G.12LGA: Passenger transport. Built for the LATI (Linee Aeree Transcontinetale Italiane) airline which was founded in September 1938 to fly to South America.
  • Fiat G.12RT: Long range transports.
  • Fiat G.12RTbis: Long range transports.
  • Fiat G.12T: Cargo and troop transport.
