Finland's VL Pyörremyrsky ("Whirlwind") fighter
Nickname: "Wood-Messer"

Design

The VL Pyörremyrsky (Whirlwind), which was intended to be similar to the Messerschmitt Bf 109G in its flying abilities, never saw combat due to its low priority. There was a lack of ground crews to be able to support the Pyörremyrsky in the field.

The VL Pyörremyrsky's was nicknamed the "Wood-Messer" as it had an outward appearance to the Bf 109G, though the VL Pyörremyrsky was designed independently from the Bf 109G.

Armament

Armament was one 20 mm MG 151 cannon, with 150 rounds (similar to Bf 109G) and two 12.7 mm LKK/42 machine guns.

Prototype

It was ordered on November 26, 1942, but the prototype wasn't completed until November 21, 1944. Tests were conducted and it was almost ready for production.
